Apple Jing’an Store Opening: Embodying Historical Preservation and Sustainable Development
A Blend of Tradition and Modernity.
Apple’s latest venture, the eagerly awaited Apple Jing’an store, greeted eager customers on Thursday, March 21st, in the heart of Shanghai. Situated adjacent to the illustrious Jing’an Temple and Jing’an Park, this establishment stands as one of Apple’s grandest retail endeavors worldwide and the second-largest Apple store globally.
Surrounded by a plaza serving as a hub for community events, the store seamlessly integrates with the historic neighborhood while offering a unique shopping experience for Apple enthusiasts. Crafted by the esteemed architectural firm Foster+Partners, renowned for their work on Apple’s California headquarters, and numerous Apple projects, the store is a testament to preserving cultural heritage and advancing sustainable development.
Designed for Sustainability
Every facet of Apple Jing’an is meticulously designed with purpose, reflecting Apple’s enduring commitment to environmental stewardship. The store features a Padang Light stone wall, locally and sustainably sourced from China, contributing to its visual and material cohesion.
A remarkable curved wood ceiling system greets visitors upon entry, guiding them towards a captivating “oculus” that bathes the space in natural light. Crafted with high-quality, non-organic fire-rated materials, including 3D textured curvature, the ceiling epitomizes innovation in design and sustainability.
The “oculus” incorporates energy-efficient LED technology, simulating natural daylight within the store’s subterranean confines. Both the ceiling and lighting systems are modular and digitally controlled, exemplifying Apple’s commitment to cutting-edge manufacturing practices.
