Prof. Michael Braungart’s Endowed Professorship at the University of Design, Schwäbisch Gmünd

Though not a designer by training, Professor Braungart is a distinguished process engineer and chemist whose philosophy challenges conventional environmental protection strategies. He advocates for a transformative approach where humanity contributes positively to the environment through innovative industrial practices. His philosophy is encapsulated in the powerful statement: “We do not protect the environment by destroying it less.” Since 1994, Professor Braungart has been an influential figure, lecturing and publishing extensively on topics such as the creation of future-proof “intelligent products,” development of environmental protection concepts, eco-friendly production processes, and comprehensive life cycle assessments of consumer goods.
